Update of Old Favourite

http://dosesofdeck.blogspot.com/2012/07/random-ii.html

3 Thunder King Rai-Oh
3 D.D. Warrior Lady
2 Raiza the Storm Monarch
2 Effect Veiler
2 Cyber Dragon
2 Cardcar D
2 Spirit Reaper
1 Sangan
1 Honest
1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole
1 Meklord Emperor Wisel
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness

2 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Pot of Duality
1 Monster Reborn
1 Heavy Storm
1 Dark Hole
1 Book of Moon

2 Threatening Roar
2 Fiendish Chain
2 Solemn Warning
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Mirror Force
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device

Chainable traps seems like a good thing now and holds more value especially against Mermail. I kinda love this lineup with only one Mirror Force. Since it is present in 2 now, even if you play only 1, once your opponent sees it, it is likely that he will be cautious of 2nd one. This is a minor thing, but can be considerably helpful.

Threatening Roar + Cardcar D is one sweet pair.

Lone copy of Compulsory only since it is a diverse format

Honestly there are lots of tweak that can be made. The deck is literally bunch of personal favourites being squished together. I'm incline to cut the Veilers since I already have Chains (redundancy of -1). Either that or Wind Blast over Chains. You can mold in BLS here by taking Raiza out for few more Dark monsters.  Heck, I had even tried Big Eye

Gear Gadget

2 Green Gadget
2 Red Gadget
2 Yellow Gadget
2 Effect Veiler / Maxx "C'
2 Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon
2 Machina Fortress
1 Machina Gearframe
1 Meklord Emperor Wisel

2 Pot of Duality
2 MST
1 Heavy Storm
1 Dark Hole
1 Monster Reborn
1 Book of Moon
3 Geartown
2 Terraforming
1 Seal of Orichalcos

2 Solemn Warning
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Fiendish Chain / Dimensional Prison
2 Mirror Force
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment

Been debating whether it's worth  playing 1-2 Machina engine supporting 6 Gadgets.

saving deckspace, lessening monster count so less chance to open with monster-heavy hand

or should i just play Machina without Gadget. or will the Gadget alone be enough, and replace Machinas with Raiou.

but then i have double Gajiltron Dragon.

>The idea of the build is to use Geartown as a virtual barrier against Heavy Storm. This allow me to multiple set backrows and play the usual protect the Gadget game. Orichalcos is like an upgrade version of Solidarity. If I don't have double Terraforming/Geartown play, I have the option to boost my floaters up with this generic Field Spell. Floaters with high battle resiliency can be annoying

Jae Kim once wrote Solidarity is a terrible card for Gadget as it doesn't aid in creating open game state. And if you play Solidarity and set additional s/t you will be vulnerable to Heavy Storm. The Seal doesn't share the same concern with its built-in protection. Since only one Seal is needed, that means a lot in topdecking compared to Solidarity. The ability to threaten for endgame with Gadjiltron means the deck doesn't need to force topdecking war every single time and can change the pace of game accordingly.

Reminder 1 : Don't play Seal with Special Summoned monster on the field.
Reminder 2 : Gadjiltron only need 1 tribute with Geartown activated. Gadgets grant additional benefit when tributed for Gadjiltron.

I just realised about Limiter Removal after finishing up decklist. You can take Wisel out for it  I guess.

but Wisel is my favourite card, especially brilliant with multiple mass removal in the format. It might even provide major tempo swing occassionally. An underrated hand trap, imo.

Rambling + DN

Let me randomly start this post by saying that I haven't been doing Yugimonz for a week now. Usually I'll still play on DN few times a week even if I'm not visiting forums or brewing deck ideas but for a week, I just haven't got the chance to play. I've been busy preparing stuff for upcoming college semester and this will still be my priority for at least another week. There are two other things on my priority list:  1) send the notebook for a repair and 2) Food and Liquor 2 : TGARA Part 1 dropping on 25th! *buzzing*

---

In case you havent got it, DN on the title = Dino Ninja. Unless you want to argue that it is perfectly fair to interpret things however you like. In this case, that probably mean I'd just managed to drop a double entendre. See, im full of WIN

3 Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo

Spellbook Ladies

Heeeey there, been lazy to post anything as my holiday is going to end soon so Im spending my leisure time for other things

Here's a quick build that I made just now

2 Fortune Lady Dark
2 Fortune Lady Light
2 Fortune Lady Water
1 Fortune Lady Fire
1 Spellbook Magician of Prophecy
2 Tragoedia
2 Apprentice Magician
1 Old-Vindictive Magician
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness

3 Fortune's Future
3 Spellbook of Secrets
3 Spellbook of Power
2 Spellbook Institute - La Maison (or if you prefer, Tower of Prophecy)
1 Spellbook of Wisdom
1 Spellbook of Life
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn
1 Book of Moon
1 Terraforming
1 Future Vision
2 MST

3 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Torrential Tribute

For pure Prophecy-Spellbook and any variant that needs Spellbook of Life, this is the lineup that I propose (+1 La Maison; here, I play Terraforming as a 3rd copy of it). For other Spellcaster deck, the engine should consists of fewer Spellbooks , from my perspective ideally this - 3 Secrets, 1 Power, 1 Tower and 1 Wisdom.

So basically what ties the deck together is 1) Fortune Ladies being a Spellcaster, of course and 2) Spellbook of Life.

On top of its synergy with Fortune's Future, Spellbook of Life will increase the level of the Spellcaster you summon with it. This mean that the Fortune Lady revived by it is going to have an attack boost (1000+ most of the time) ! It goes without saying that this searchable piece of retrieval is also a heaven sent for Fortune Lady Water.

Spellbook of Power works great with FL Dark as well as boosting up FL Water to a respectable stat that will towered over Rai-Oh. The traps lineup is geared towards supporting FL Light

The field spell won't be available in TCG until ABYR, but fear not there's always DN! Although you can still play the deck w/o it but it won't be consistent. While La Maison is not a centrepiece, it's a source of card advantage and allow you to play less copy of certain Spellbooks since you can recycle them.

Gem Angel

3 Crystal Beast Sapphire Pegasus
2 Crystal Beast Ruby Carbuncle
2 Crystal Beast Topaz Tiger
2 Crystal Beast Amber Mammoth
2 Effect Veiler
2 Shining Angel
1 D.D. Warrior Lady
1 Neo-Spacian Grand Mole

3 Crystal Promise
2 Crystal Beacon
2 Crystal Release
3 Smashing Ground
2 Pot of Duality
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Dark Hole
1 Book of Moon
1 Monster Reborn
1 Rare Value

2 Torrential Tribute
2 Dimensional Prison
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
1 Solemn Warning / Compulsory

First off, what does Shining Angel brings to the table?

1) An alternative decent opening to Pegasus. 2) Special Summon Ruby !

Yes, Shining Angel is (and has always been) lacking in good target but I am not using it for its toolbox ability. Crystal Beast doesn't need a huge monster lineup so not that it matter anyway if it has only 1/2 target here. It can search for the lone copy of D.D. Warrior Lady which present a very good answer to lots of threat which are otherwise would be a headache for typical Crystal Beast deck.

The deck want to achieve a simpified game state with removals followed by any of the 5 Crystal spells that allow for Ruby play. In my opinion, the existence of XYZ will favor a Crystal Beck deck which focus on higher trap count than the Rainbow Ruin + Abundance variant.

Heavy Storm : While 'theorectically' this is counter productive, actually this is one of my best weapon. It's quite usual for people to set all their traps when going up against Crystal Beast.

Crystal Release : Some will argue that Horn of the Phantom Beast is superior but I will at least put 1 in any Crystal Beast variant. It's a pseudo Pegasus, and Pegasus is the bread and butter of Crystal Beast.

1 copy of Solemn Warning is a personal preference. I don't feel safe with Solemns brigade here. The deck doesn't hold field presence well enough that it is almost guaranteed to take a lot of damage in battle. Instead of 2 Warning, Im going with 2 Bottomless.

---

Also, here's another deck making full use of Shining Angel as a toolbox - as promised, my Archfiend deck.

2 Shining Angel
2 D.D. Warrior Lady
2 Photon Thrasher
1 Photon Lizard
2 Krebons
2 Tour Guide From the Underworld
2 Mist Archfiend
1 Desrook Archfiend
1 Sangan
1 T.G. Striker
1 Spirit Reaper
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
1 BLS - Envoy of the Beginning

2 Falling Down

2 Creature Swap
2 Pot of Duality
2 Mystical Space Typhoon

I was about to post my Archfiend deck but I've been testing this tonight instead so I'll just do this first and Archfiend later.

A Little Bit of Magic - Blink

A bit depressed now. Actually didn't plan to write until I received a good news on my reassessment result. Anyhow here's my current Magic deck. I still play casually at times but less so than I play DN now that the format is getting better.

2 Birds of Paradise
4 Avacyn's Pilgrim
3 Strangleroot Geist
4 Nightshade Peddler
4 Borderland Ranger
4 Blade Splicer
2 Fiend Hunter
4 Restoration Angel
2 Silverblade Paladin

4 Cavern of Soul
4 Razorverge Thicket
5 Plains
5 Forest
2 Gavony Township
4 Sunpetal Grove

3 Cloudshift
4 Day of Judgment

Lots of the stuff here will be getting rotated anyway and what not Day of Judgment doesn't play into the deck theme theoretically but oh well. I've been playing g/w mostly ever since I learned Magic back in July, whether it is control or aggro human and i'm settled on Blink for the time being.

There will be another Yugioh decklist post in the next few hours so look out for that.

edit note: this is too fun. I played 10! ramp dorks but top the curve at Resto.... talk about realLOL

Moon Eye Plan (not)

Apparently Tsukuyomi is un-Ban so it seems like I can play this again.

3 Gravekeeper's Spy
2 Effect Veiler
2 Debris Dragon
2 Tour Guide From the Underworld
1 Night Assailant
1 Tsukuyomi
1 Dandylion
1 Lonefire Blossom
1 Spore
1 Sangan
2 Spirit Reaper
2 Thunder King Raiou
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness
1 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning

2 Mystical Space Typhoon
2 Pot of Duality / Mind Control + One for One
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn
1 Book of Moon
1 Scapegoat
1 Nobleman of Crossout
0/1 Enemy Controller / Allure of Darkness

2 Torrential Tribute

2 Dimensional Prison
2 Solemn Warning
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Magic Drain

Couple of points :

Spy engine is the closest thing to Tengu. With double Spy, you can still go Lonefire to Spore to Librarian + LV8 Synchro/Rank 4

Tsukuyomi : Great with Spies. From double Spy, I can summon Tsukuyomi and go to double Rank 4.

Night Assailant vs Dark Resonator : Assailant is simply superior. I can ditch it with One for One and grab Spy back. It is also a Debris target. Although if you prefer Resonator, you have the additional option of Arcanite.

Nobleman of Crossout : Book, Tsukuyomi.... and Maestroke. I'm glad I can play this again

Prison vs. Bottomless : I prefer Prison slightly because if Kristya/Grapha already hit the field, Bottomless isn't going to help much.

Magic Drain : My favourite tech; Hero and Dark World rely a lot on their spells. Almost guaranteed negation for late game

E-con/Allure : I put it as 0/1 to indicate an option whether I want the deck to stay at 40 or just bump it to 41/42 with either cards

Among all of Rank 4, Lavalval Chain is simply the best for the deck, the synergy it has is crazy good. Very unfortunate it's unavailable for TCG so you have to settle on Maestroke/Utopia.

---

Minor banlist thought - We are probably going to see MST at 3 for the next couple of formats. Level Limit and Cylinder at 3 is a poor decision in my opinion. What next? Imperial Order to 1?

TeleDAD... or was it?

No, this is not Teleport Dark Armed Dragon. I consider it dead after Malicious goes to 2. Why was it called TeleDAD anyway - Plaguespreader was pretty much the main tuner after it was released and some did not even ran Teleport during that time.

This has been sitting on my draft for quite a while and I'm a bit hesitant to post this without extensive testing. However, since there've been a lack of post during the last few days due to school commitment, figured it might be necessary to post something decent

2 Armageddon Knight
2 Mystic Tomato
2 Effect Veiler
2 Destiny Hero - Plasma
2 Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude
1 Destiny Hero - Doom Lord
1 Elemental Hero Stratos
1 Dark Armed Dragon
1 Dark Grepher
1 Sangan
1 Necro Gardna
1 Spirit Reaper
1 Plaguespreader Zombie
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness

2 Creature Swap
2 Destiny Draw
2 Over Destiny
1 Allure of Darkness
1 Heavy Storm
1 Dark Hole
1 Monster Reborn
1 Book of Moon
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Scapegoat
1 Reinforcement of the Army

2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Torrential Tribute
2 Solemn Warning
1 Solemn Judgment

While the past TeleDAD operated with aim to perform double synchro summon, this deck is more in tune with current meta, forgoing the LV8 Synchros in favor of Rank 4 XYZ summon, thus dropping the often volatile Destiny Hero - Malicious.

This variant is made possible by one card - Over Destiny. The whole deck is structured to support Over Destiny and even a high utility card , the likes of Tour Guide, wasn't picked in favor for the more synergy-friendly Tomato engine. The plan is to get Plasma to the Graveyard as soon as possible to bring Over Destiny online. Once Plasma is in the grave, you can do a lot of fun thing with Over Destiny.

Creature Swap is amazing here and while it can be used with either of Tomato or Over Destiny, the best play you can do is to combine both : summon Diamond Dude with Over Destiny, use his effect, followed by Swapping your Tomato, and attacking it with Diamond Dude.

Dark Grepher is almost the equivalent of Bubbleman.(In fact, I've tried a variant with triple Grepher and Trade-In which is a bit inconsistent). You can summon Stratos, get Plasma, dump it to Special Summon Dark Grepher and proceed to Rank 4. Also, most of the Level 4 in this deck is a Warrior which allow for access to Heroic Champion - Excalibur and Blade Armor Ninja.

I probably don't need to elaborate on how brilliant Over Destiny is with Leviair and what a difference can Lavalval Chain makes. Barring a Veiler, opening up with Over Destiny and Armageddon Knight is going to set your Graveyard to 3 Darks, and a 2nd turn DAD.

Random Update

I open terrible with Jinzo, BLS, 2 Morph, Duo and Night Assailant so it was really satisfying to win :)

You can see my Volcanic Counter in action vs Evols in the video below in which I lose. Probably could have won if I have an Extra Deck so that was me being dumb but still a neat game nonetheless . As always, it is advisable for you to mute the sound  :3

LOOOL

Dodger beats Warning yo

Solemn Warning would have been a much more balanced card if it's restricted to negating Special Summon. A mass-used card that can negate a Normal Summon is unhealthy ; combo-based strategy will not thrived in such environment and as such restricts creativity. Despite the fact that it negates Special Summon, Warning actually promotes more Special Summon as duelist try to avoid losing the tempo to Warning. With -2000 cost, faster card exchange, and more Special Summon, everything ends up fast and results in the current horrible scene of meta.

Warning is just another example of Konami printing more broken card to take care of broken card.

First off, the video is a mirror match of this deck, vs AI. When I decided to learn Magic about 2 weeks ago, I downloaded this game and essentially learn Magic just by playing it overnight. The game was released in 1997 I think and contain the first four expansion, iirc. There's no limit on cards you can play - you can in fact, use 100+ of the same card in a deck though I never do that - and it's nice for beginner like me to experience how broken the Power Nine really is.

Neos

3 Elemental Hero Neos
2 Neo-Spacian Glow Moss
2 Neo-Spacian Dark Phanter

3 Ryko, Lightsowrn Hunter
2 Lyla, Lightsworn Sorceress

1 Pot of Avarice
1 Heavy Storm
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole

3 Raigeki Break
1 Royal Decree

Others:
Elemental HERO Grand, Glow, Dark, and Chaos Neos

Hmmm, so basically you dump stuff to grave and drop Chaos boss or Miracle Contact. MC gives option to bounce stuff with Grand, destroy with Glow, or goes for the cool Chaos Neos. Meanwhile, Dark Neos is pretty much useless....while in fairness, I'd managed to copy BLS with Dark Phanter YES I REALLY DID THAT once.

You'll draw some unplayable hand every now and then of course. You can actually take out all Neos + MC, and replace them with triple Junk Synchron, put in some The Warrior Returning Alive, and now you can return your milled BLS like a champ. The deck already have Junk n Debris setup anyway except you cant really call it that way because 1) you don't even play Debris Dragon which mean, 2) no Black Rose nuke as a reset button.

Crusader and Thalia are good but they are hilariously out of sync here. the 2-2-2 split of the instants is so random :)

Gateway

I can never understand people who insist Black Whirlwind is a better card than Gateway of the Six. Konami might as well take off its +2 and +6 effects and it made no difference really. Yesterday, I was facing 2 set s/ts , both turning out to be Bottomless and Torrential. I have a Zanji on the field, a Gateway with 2 Counter and a Kizan and Smoke Signal in hand. I ended up winning that turn with 10200 attack points on board - a 3500 Kageki, Shadow of the Six Samurai, Grandmaster and Kizan.

Gateway is a sacky card , but when Kizan wasn't available, it's a more balance card even with the Hand loop. The reason being it can be a liability ; you are dedicating triple slots for a card that requires 2 Samurai summon to 'replacs itself' - this is not a recipe for consistency when you only have Grandmaster as a mean of Special Summon back then, but is made absurd now with Kizan and Smoke-able Kageki.

Magic Deck Update

So....I just lose vs. multiple Wurmcoil Engine spam :(

1st Wurmcoil - Got DoJ'ed. Tokens poke a little but somehow I manage to destroy both

2nd Wurmcoil - He get back his 1st one with Buried Ruin and cast it again :(. I have Fiend Hunter though :)

3rd Wurmcoil - Then, he use Black Sun's Zenith on Fiend Hunter.... but I have another Hunter !

4th Wurmcoil -  Turns out he has another one. Cast it out and I ran out of answer

---

So, here's the current update of my G/W

Creature
4 Ambush Viper
3 Strangleroot Geist
4 Blade Splicer
3 Emancipation Angel
2 Restoration Angel
2 Grand Abolisher

Enchantment
4 Abundant Growth
2 Oblivion Ring

Lands
4 Razorverge Thicket
9 Plains
5 Forest
4 Sunpetal Grove

Instant
4 Beast Within
2 Sheltering Word

Planeswalker
1 Elspeth Tirel

Sorcery
4 Day of Judgment
3 Gitaxian Probe

My creatures count keep getting lower and lower . Might still try some creatures over O-Ring. I was using those 1-drop Instant like Cloudshift and Righteous Blow and the low cost is tempting - things like Blow-ing Delver - but when they are useless, they really are :/

First Try at Magic's Standard : G/W Control

Creature
4 Birds of Paradise
4 Avacyn's Pilgrim
4 Strangleroot Geist
4 Blade Splicer
3 Fiend Hunter
2 Restoration Angel
2 Grand Abolisher

Lands
4 Razorverge Thicket
8 Plains
5 Forest
2 Gavony Township
4 Sunpetal Grove

Instant
3 Cloudshift
3 Righteous Blow
3 Beast Within

Planeswalker
1 Gideon Jura

Sorcery
4 Day of Judgment

Why G/W ? Because I like Wrath of God / DoJ , it simplify things. Also not fond on Oblivion Ring, for 1 more mana I can wipes everything instead of just one threat, and O-Ring does target. For a similar cost, i also have Beast Within, and Fiend Hunter. In fact, Fiend Hunter is better with the synergy alongside Cloudshift. Vapor Snag can be a threat of course but i think Cloudshift will minimize that.

Still need more test and I might take out Avacyn's Pilgrim.

---

Made some more changes, played Delver once on Cockatrice losing 2-1 :/

FIEND HUNTER KEEP GETTING VAP-SNAGGED FOR LIKE BAZILLION TIMES WHEN I HAVE NO CLOUDSHIFT

I also learnt that Mana Leak is only a soft counter

Also, Magic's 60 cards has an obvious difference to Yugioh's 40. It just feels different...

- 4 Avacyn's Pilgrim
- 4 Birds of Paradise
- 1 Gideon Jura

+ 3 Ambush Viper
+ 3 Gitaxian Probe
+ 2 Timely Reinorcements
+ 1 Elspeth Tirel

My favourite card so far is Beast Within. its like Compulsory Evacuation Device ! You can use it to trade with opponent's removal or get rid of stuff . For a 3 drop, that seems outstanding. I can even follow up with DoJ to mitigate the drawback

Edit note: Beast Within is indeed one of my early favourite Magic card and later learnt that in fact, its rather good. Just not in this build. I just love the versatility of that card. In all of honesty, I had some interesting plan here. BW and Cloudshift is an interesting answer to spot removals and BW can even trigger Strangleroot. Fun times

Concept Deck : Magic

Reptilianne

Seeing lots of senior member leaving tcgplayer forum is kinda sad.

Im going to be out of the game for a while too since I have some things to prioritise over the next few weeks.

Here's a quick post for the time being,

3 Tour Guide From the Underworld
3 Reptilianne Gardna
2 Reptilianne Vaskii
2 Phantom Skyblaster
2 Battle Fader
1 Reptilianne Naga
1 Sangan
1 Genex Ally Birdman
1 Unknown Synchron
1 Gorz the Emissary of Darkness

3 Token Sundae
2 Pot of Duality
2 Creature Swap
2 Fires of Doomsday
2 Reptilianne Spawn
1 Scapegoat
1 Allure of Darkness
1 Heavy Storm
1 Book of Moon
1 Monster Reborn
1 Dark Hole
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Enemy Controller

2 Offerings to the Snake Deity
2 Torrential Tribute

---

Birdman + Skyblaster/TGU

Skyblaster  + Fader

Fader also a Vaskii fodder

Skyblaster + Unknown Synchron

Swap + TGU = fast Sangan tutor

Note : 1) Gardna doesnt search when Swapped. 2) Skyblaster tokens has 500 atk

This is a combo/control deck and you want to drag the game long enough to gather combo pieces. Some of the time, you won't draw any cards that allow you to make small push/ take advantage of your game control but that's fine. Between Token Sundae and Offerings, you have a lot of answer to your opponent's threat, so try to play a resource game if possible

That's all I guess.

Rock Stun

I have been testing Trial and Tribulation a lot lately. Here's one of the deck that I tried, albeit with a less than impressive result thus far

3 Koa'ki Meiru Guardian
2 Koa'ki Meiru Sandman
2 Koa'ki Meiru Wall
3 Koa'ki Meiru Rock
3 Naturia Cliff
2 Block Golem
1 Morphing Jar/Neo-Spacian Grand Mole

3 Pot of Duality
2 Trial and Tribulation
1 Rock Bombarding Area
4 staples

2 Skill Drain
2 warning
2 bth
2 prison
2 torren
1 solemn
1 coth
1 Mirror Force
1 Sealing Ceremony of Mokuton

15 rank 4 xyz

---

I'm done with Rock Stun for the moment. Can't seem to find much needed balance

Rock-archetype has some pretty interesting support though. Sealing Ceremony is a good tech against Chaos Dragon. Rock Bombarding Area has some potential use like protecting Fossil Dyna, for example while setting up Graveyard for Block Golem reverse toolbox. Block Golem is pretty decent support, allow for multiple spam of Rock Stun monster or you have the option to Exceed . There are few route that the deck can go - either to main Drain or Dyna. Other good Rock monster are Jujitsu Master and Mormolith. If you decided to forgo Block Golem, Rai-Oh is another good card to have here.

Currently testing a retardedly good deck.

Yugioh is too retarded now

Ninja Sanctuary

My first post on TCGPlayer was a Baboon deck incorporating the neat hand killer combo involving Protector of the Sanctuary. At the time, Call of the Haunted was definitely in the Limited list still but in Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane, I have a reliable alternative. Baboon provides field presence while Card of Safe Return allows for draw loop with Manticore of Darkness which I also played.

Now with Call of the Haunted back to 3 and a surpisingly high synergy gained off Ninja archetype, perhaps it is a good time to revisit the old strategy.

3 Ninja Grandmaster Hanzo
3 Upstart Golden Ninja
3 Hyper Hammerhead
3 Tour Guide from the Underworld
1 Sangan
1 Morphing Jar
1 Karakuri Ninja mdl 339 "Sazank"
1 Protector of the Sanctuary

3 Upstart Goblin
2 Pot of Duality
1 Card Destruction
1 Monster Reborn
1 Heavy Storm
1 Dark Hole
1 Book of Moon
1 Reinforcement of the Army

3 Call of the Haunted
3 Ninjitsu Art of Super Transformation
3 Dust Tornado
2 Disturbance Strategy
2 Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane

2 Lavalval Chain
1 Maestroke the Symphony Djinn
1 Evolzar Laggia
1 Evolzar Dolkka
1 Blade Armor Ninja
1 Steelswarm Roach
1 Number 91 : Thunder Spark Dragon
1 Number 50 : Black Corn
1 Number 39 : Utopia
1 Number C39 : Utopia Ray
1 Number 17 : Leviathan Dragon
1 Wind-Up Zenmaines
1 Leviair the Sea Dragon
1 Chimeratech Fortress Dragon

When building such a combo-based strategy, it is important to note whether you are able to access said combo on a constant basis. If such deck is able to do so, the priority should be to get onto combo pieces as fast as possible. If you cannot, than it is a wise decision to make sure that the deck can still do okay without the combo (in other word, a Plan B) . This build falls into the latter category, which also helps me in deciding, for example, to have Upstart Goblin here, over One Day of Peace.

Having said that, most of the cards here have specific purpose. Some, like Tour Guide is a fairly decent card on its own but, here, it contributes to getting into combo pieces faster helps by sending Sangan to the grave early. Call of the Haunted then, can retrieve Sangan and allows me to tutor into combo pieces.

There are two ways that the combo can work. The first and the primary one is, chaining Call of the Haunted/Kurogane to the activation of Card Destruction/Disturbance Strategy. The second method is to have a Protector face-up while Morphing Jar is attacked. This occurs less frequently but when it happen, it
is game-changing, as you will at least gain a +5 cards advantage. Also note that you cannot flip Morphing Jar manually while Protector is face-up. Of course like the first method, if you have no Protector on the field, you can still flip the Jar and chain Call of the Haunted to summon Protector and proceed to PROFIT STEP.

As the game wore off to later stage, opponent will have a lesser card so the combo is best used as early a possible. Another alternative Protector combo (not possible here) is to chain either Ceasefire or The Spell Absorbing Life to the activation of Card Destruction.

--

Moving on to the monster lineup, the Ninjas is the engine of the deck. Triple Hanzo is staple for Ninja engine. Upstart is golden here, more so than Hanzo. Upstart allows for instant access to any Rank 4 but the primary use is to bring Lavalval Chain out; subsequently, Lavalval Chain can dump Protector of the Sanctuary to the grave. This is on top of Upstart Golden Ninja ability to make use of any dead Trap Cards in hand and compliment the high-number but low-utility trap lineup nicely.

Going along with the Ninja engine, triple Hyper Hammerhead, a hugely underrated card, makes for a decent sole target for Super Art. Its Earth attribute makes it available as a fodder for Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane. Also being a Dinosaur present an opportunity to bring forth Dolkka or Laggia on occassion. One copy of Sazank completes the engine, as usual.

Tour Guide inclusion is contentious, but definitely goes along well with 3 copies of Call of the Haunted. Morphing Jar is no-brainer; being a key part of the combo.

Spells and Traps

At times, I don't feel Upstart Goblin is necessary but, along with Duality, they are sort of a placeholder, which mean I am starting the duel with 35 cards each time, which is theoretically a recipe for consistency. Reinforcement can fetch for one of the Ninja. The other four spells are a definite staple in any of my deck. Dust Tornado is just plain good, getting rid of nuisances and the second effect is quiet handy. One of the advantage of the combo is that you can do it on the opponent's turn, right after Draw Phase - no Veiler to mess things up. Also, Disturbance Strategy is a troll on its own.

This mini-lock would be awesome in the past, replicating the Cyberdark concept ;

Allure Queen LV3/LV5/LV7 + Destiny Hero Departed

Unless your opponent have two monsters, or destroys Queen outside of battle, you can keep stalling.

Your opponent cannot destroy Queen by battle if he only have one monster. The destroyed Departed would keep coming back and equipped again.

How about combining it with The Dark Door?

My, how old school  :>

Second Chance

One of the good thing about DN is that sometimes you will stumble upon a fun deck that allure you to try it. This happen to me today. The idea is to 'abuse' the Second Coin Toss so that you have as good of probability as possible to achieve the desired effect of cards that required a coin toss. Upon the first draft, and first testing, this is what I've come up with,

3 Sasuke Samurai #4
3 Tour Guide From the Underworld
3 Cardcar D
2 Gambler of Legend
2 Time Wizard
2 Twin-Barrel Dragon
2 Meklord Emperor of Wisel
1 Meklord Emperor of Granel
1 Sangan

3 Second Coin Toss
2 Cup of Ace
2 Pot of Duality
1 Monster Reborn
1 Book of Moon
1 Heavy Storm
1 Dark Hole

2 Fairy Box
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Torrential Tribute
2 Solemn Warning
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Tour of Doom

Monday, June 4, 2012

When one compared Fortune's Future with Destiny Draw, the flaw is obvious. Whereas with D-Draw, for it to be alive, you only need to draw a Destiny Hero, with F-Future, if you did not previously have any Fortune Lady in the RFP area, you have to draw one AND need to find a way to remove it. Fortune Lady deck typically need to find balance between trying to remove cards (to feed F-Future) ,to get Lady Light off the field, to find some balance between Light and Dark(ness!), which lead to ratio debate, et cetera. It is a big mess and Future Vision goes some way to tie the deck together but other than triggering Light, it has lesser synergy with the rest of the ladies.

There are other area of deficient too. LadyWater, and Fire is a mediocre cards to draw; Earthy is plain terrible while Windy is a downgrade version of Breaker the Magical Warrior. LadyDark is also an inconvenient draw for early game. Put it simply, Fortune Lady is an inconsistent archetype, and some of the attempt to combine it with other archetype - Destiny Hero, specifically - is bound to fed chaos.

---

What if you take one of the element away and focus on the strongest asset instead?

3 Fortune Lady Dark
2 Fortune Lady Light
2 Fortune Lady Water
3 Apprentice Magician
2 Thunder King Rai-Oh
2 Effect Veiler
3 Tour Guide From the Underworld
1 Sangan
1 Old Vindictive Magician
1 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning

1 Allure of Darkness
1 Book of Moon
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Scapegoat

3 Call of the Haunted
2 Compulsory Evacuation Device
2 Torrential Tribute
2 Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Solemn Warning
1 Solemn Judgment

Thursday, May 31, 2012

So, exam is over.

Plan to play some yugimonz back and this is a draft list of my Sams, updated from the last time I used it,

2 Legendary Six Samurai – Kageki
3 Legendary Six Samurai – Kizan
Grandmaster of the Six Samurai
Kagemusha of the Six Samurai
1 Legendary Six Samurai – Enishi
1 Effect Veiler
2 Elder of the Six Samurai
1 Shien's Squire

Six Samurai United
3 Shien’s Dojo
Gateway of the Six
Asceticism of the Six Samurai
Reinforcement of the Army
2 Shien’s Smoke Signal
1 Pot of Duality
1 Dark Hole
Heavy Storm
Monster Reborn
Book of Moon

Double-Edged Sword Technique
Solemn Warning
Solemn Judgment
Fiendish Chain

You can make an argument that staples aren't really a staple in Six Sam, be it Dark Hole, Heavy Storm and even Monster Reborn. However, they are more often than not, a reliable pieces to fall upon when you're out of idea to fill in the last couple of slot. Here, I had 2 free slots, and it was a toss up between stacks of Veiler or Dark Hole and Duality; I chose the latters. Heavy Storm is not necessary, so does MST but I think a copy of backrow removal can do no harm.

and oh, I just pick up on the priority ruling. More power to the Veiler over C now. Guess we won't miss  Exiled Force anyway.

the format is shit as f*ck, still.

Since I haven't blog for a while, I figured the price feature on DN is pretty fun and as someone who never play irl, it would be nice to know the price of deck that I made. So what I am gonna do is , I want to edit couple of my decks and add the price tag.

By the way, I hardly play even on DN anymore. Power creep just get worse with many deck capable of having a broken opening from first turn hand.

Bubble Beat

I am really mad at myself. I should've finish up my report but I didn't mainly because I'm in a not-so-good condition. So, this weekend feel kinda suck.

Anyway, this post is a sort of to introduce two variant of Bubble Beat / Hero Beat or whatever you want to call it - Turbo and Standard. I did a post on my Turbo version a couple of weeks ago. Basically Turbo focus on getting the better of Rank 4 Exceeds on field, those that requires 3 Level 4 for XYZ Summon. However, this can be costly in economic terms. Hence, this mean is achieve by spamming Stratos multiple time. In case you are wondering how this works, here's my current list:

1 Elemental Hero Stratos
3 Elemental Hero Bubbleman
2 Elemental Hero Ocean
2 Kagetokage/Goblindbergh

3 E - Emergency Call
3 Miracle Fusion
2 A Hero Lives
2 Mask Change
2 Pot of Duality
2 The Warrior Returning Alive
1 R - Righteous Justice
1 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Super Polymerization
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 Book of Moon
1 Dark Hole
1 Monster Reborn
1 Heavy Storm

2 Torrential Tribute
2 Fiendish Chain
2 Solemn Warning
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Starlight Road
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Compulsory Evacuation Device

In an ideal world, Summoner Monk is perfect here but we are living in reality where Effect Veiler and Fiendish Chain is rampantly played. Over in it's place is Kagetokage. To a lesser extent, Goblindbergh is decent but also suffer from the same fate as Monk, that it is prone to Veiler and "C". There's also Photon Thrasher. It's a decent distant cousin of Cydra - only that it fits the deck even better, being a Level 4. However, it is much better in a standard build where you are more likely to have bare field thanks to Gemini Spark. In turbo, the opposite happens, it's essentially dead after first turn, where you are more likely in position to protect the field with Ocean as to spam Stratos . And here, Stratos is the heartbeat of the deck, so as to speak. It is so important that I even have 2 copies of A Hero Lives for tutoring him faster, on top of E-Call, Ocean, and TWRA.

One of the best opening is to XYZ Summon Number 16 : Shock Master (or Shock Ruler which just sounds cooler ) and detach 1, calling Spell and protect it with defensive cards . This has two advantage, 1) slows down opponent, especially the deck that relies on Spell and 2) protect the backrow which in turn, will protect the Ruler. This goes in hand with Bubbleman, who want the hand to be empty but in doing so, makes you prone to mass destruction. Unless you have Starlight, this can be risky and therefore, Shock Ruler is a real handy. After a successful summon of Shock Ruler, barring a Fiendish Chain, your opponent is in tight seeing as D-Prison and Mirror Force hardly seen played nowadays. For the second detach, depending on the situation, Monster/Spell can be call. (Don't call a Trap unless you are going for game. You need them to protect from opponent's play during his turn)

Of course I won't be able to summon Shock Ruler every single time. This is why Stratos is important. Stratos, getting Bubbleman to XYZ is essentially a one-card XYZ Summon. And you can repeat this more with TWRA.

Now let's go to a more Standard variant,

1 Elemental Hero Stratos
3 Elemental Hero Bubbleman
3 Elemental Hero Neos Alius
2 Photon Thrasher

3 E - Emergency Call
3 Miracle Fusion
3 Pot of Duality
3 Gemini Spark
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 The Warrior Returning Alive
1 Super Polymerization
1 Reinforcement of the Army
1 Book of Moon
1 Dark Hole
1 Monster Reborn
1 Heavy Storm

2 Hero Blast
2 Torrential Tribute
2 Fiendish Chain/Bottomless Trap Hole
2 Solemn Warning
1 Solemn Judgment
1 Starlight Road

This build focus more on getting Neos Alius on field. Most of the Exceed Summon is going to be into Blade Master, which allows for aggressive play. More often than not, you should E-Call into Neos Alius rather than Stratos because of Effect Veiler and Fiendish Chain.

Quishie

I have been busy lately . well, kind of. so here's one quick post.

3 Relinquished
3 Manju of the Ten Thousand Hands
3 Tour Guide From the Underworld
2 Djinn Releaser of Rituals
2 Sonic Bird
2 Effect Veiler
2 Meklord Emperor Wisel
1 Sangan
1 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginnning

3 Black Illusion Ritual
2 Preparation of Rites
2 Mystical Space Typhoon
1 Book of Moon
1 Pot of Avarice
1 Heavy Storm
1 Dark Hole
1 Monster Reborn

3 Call of the Haunted
2 Safe Zone
2 Solemn Warning

This is a standard build of Quishie, whether Piper variant is better is debatable.

I originally have 2 Lava Golem in there, it's the best thing ever vs Rabbit. But before finishing up the list for the first time, I decided to have 2 Sonic Bird over it. Reason is simple, drawing Sonic Bird over Lava Golem is more likely to help with consistency. Sonic Bird only fetch Ritual Spell, yes, but Quishie is very very searchable already with Sangan and Preparation of Rites.

Preparation of Rites : This can be a dead card early on but as the game progress, it's essentially a one-card Ritual Summon. That is simply awesome.

Breaker not only help to draw out Warning/Veiler, but can be used to destroy Quishie's Equip so that it can eat another creature.

Since Quishie is only immune to battle but not to destruction, Wisel is a good backup plan. The ability to negate spell is sexy.

Safe Zone : I am contemplating between this and Torrential Tribute. It has few sexy combo - the obvious one being with Relinquished but also an almost permanent spell negation with Wisel. On top of that, there are mini use with Breaker, Zenmaines and some other that I might not have think of. Also, this can trigger Wisel so all in all, there's nice synergy there.

---

Based on average price, the main deck of 35-cards without Tour Guides will cost $197.74. With it, it is $632.56. Wisel's is unknown idk why probably because of JUMP exclusive but I guess it is about the range of Skiel and Granel (~$5)

If I ever want to play competitively, I'd think twice now. Probably my deck of choice irl would be GBs seeing as I dont need to invest much on Extra. Zenmaines alone is about $125 each. I never play irl so was surprised that even Catastor cost $21 . Some of the card I use in DN is OCG-only so I'll just replace with TCG cards i.e Utopia for Lavalval Chain. The cost is $208.50 + 2 Zenmaines ($125.16*2) = $458.82.

Total price = about $1095
